DJ CHUNGY

MEMBER / DJ

Chung Xiong (he/they) aka DJ Chungy is an emerging DJ and creative artist based in the Bay Area. He is a queer, first-generation Hmong American, originally from Minnesota. In just a couple short years, Chungy has skyrocketed onto the house and club music scene with their curation of fresh sound and infectious beats. His music selection can be described as gay, queer, bouncy, groovy, experimental, and soulful. Aside from house and club, he also enjoys slowing it down with R&B. His main music influences include but are not limited to Emotional Oranges, UMI, SZA, H.E.R., and Cautious Clay.

Prior to DJing, Chungy danced semi-professionally for a few years. His dance credits include: the Minnesota Timberwolves 612 Crew (Mpls), World of Dance Live Tour (Mpls), Cowles Center for the Performing Arts (Mpls), Academy of Villains (SJ), INQ (Oakland), VIBE Dance Competition (LA), World of Dance (Chicago), San Francisco Pride Festival, Palace of Fine Arts (SF), and San Diego Pride Festival.

Chungy started creating mixes for dance teams/companies and finds joy in integrating the creative process of producing and DJing with dance and movement to tell a story. He believes there is so much storytelling that happens in-between songs, whether it is making a mix for dance or mixing when spinning. Lastly, he hopes to eventually learn to better produce and blend sounds from his Hmong culture into house and club music one day.
